If you don't read any further, read this: PLEASE, VOTE! Today is one of the most important opportunities to unite with your country and share your voice. At a time when the country is divided, completely split on their opinion of who should be in the Oval Office for the next four years, the least we can do is unite as voters at the polls today, even if we may disagree on who we will be voting for.
I would love to share your voting stories here. Please tell us:
- Who you took to the polls with you: your daughter, your son, your husband, your grandma, your friend.
- Take a picture: your voting sticker, your 7 hour line, your red, white and blue.
- Tell me about the new friend you met in line today.
- For you undecided voters: share that moving moment that inspired your decision today.
- For you mothers: how did your family play in to the decision you made today to vote?

I voted early but still want to contribute. I thought it might be easier to vote early with a energetic toddler. I also thought it would be better to hold Henry because I wasn't sure how our stroller would fare with the shoulder to shoulder booths. I am not sure I was right on either decision but I was able to cast my ballot. Even if I was sweating by the end of it. I love the idea that my son was there to participate with me. Even though he thought it was boring ipad game, I think it is important that he gets exposure to things like this. And I realized that my vote affects him so I tried to be more prepared as I went in.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said about us uniting as we vote. I felt that there. A woman in front of me offered to save my place in line so I could sit down with Henry. I was touched by her thoughtfulness.
I walked away from the experience feeling hopeful. And with stronger arms.
My favorite thing this election has been watching my kids get excited about the election. A few times I have caught my 7-yr-old having political discussions with friends. They are funny and real like this one . . . "Obama has problems, he has a lot of money but wastes it." "But Romney has a problem too, he pays too (little) taxes.". "Well they both have problems.". . . I just love that he notices what's going on and is learning to appreciate this important part of our freedom. My 4-yr-old likes the candidate that the rest of us are opposed too, which is great because she's already exercising freedom by showing she can make her own choice. The toddler just ate her future voter sticker, but one day she'll be able to love election day too!
